Hello Everyone
Hello Everyone
Hi there, my name is Amy. I just turned 60, love my husband of over 30 years, and my cat, Angus. I am an INFP on the Myers-Briggs scale, which is a fancy way of saying I'm a sensitive, empathic introvert who lives in her head 100% of the time. I love God and I have an amazing life except for my bad habit. I've been drinking alcohol since my early 20s and I'm tired of it. I've been a very good functioning alcoholic (I should get an award). Wine is my go to. I want to live a life free of alcohol, from the thought it it on a constant basis to planning my day around if I will have a bottle or not tonight. I come from a family of alcoholics so it's been a constant like the day and night. Tired, tired, tired of it hanging around. I'm gonna give it the boot. Hubby feels the same way, his go to is beer. Glad to be here, I look forward to hanging out here and meeting new friends.
Hi and welcome Amy.
I entered recovery when I was a young mom and
wife at the age of 30. Some 30 yrs sober and 30
yrs older, which puts us close to the same age.
I spent my first 28 days sober in a rehab facility
which as I look back on it today as going to school
to learn some valuable information about addiction
and the gift of a recovery program I continue to use
and incorporate in my daily affairs to remain healthy,
happy and honest.
I'm retired with my spouse and enjoy gardening
which is also a wonderful gift that brings lots of
joy and rewards to my life.
There are many who are learning how to find
success in living a sober life and finally getting
off that rollercoaster ride of insanity that comes
with addiction.
There are also many who have found that success
in living a sober life and continue to enjoy life without
that crutch that kept them chained to their addiction
for yrs.
Continue to read, learning new helpful ways to live
your own sober life to achieve many of life's rewarding
gifts while moving forward, staying connected to
your recovery lifeline like many of us do each day.
Again, welcome.

Welcome!
I am an INFJ-T on the Myers Brigg. Empathic and supposedly introverted. I dont necessarily identify with the introversion. I can see it in my personal life but my work life is extroverted 100% of the time.
It is good that you decided to quit using alcohol. I was a wine drinker myself. It became a prime focus in my life for quite awhile. I am now reaping the benefits of sobriety. I do hope that you continue to post and become apart of this community. We are so happy you are here!

Welcome Amy
I'm an ENFJ / ENTJ, both seem to fit equally as well!
Congratulations on making that decision and it's great that your husband thinks about it the same way. You can support each other. My partner and me are both recovering alcoholics too but we met in recovery.

Welcome to SR Amy. It is great to hear that even if he is not ready to quit too, your husband would be supportive if you have decided it is time. There is a great life of health and peace waiting for you. Too many great things about sobriety to list. I hope you give it a shot.
Can today be your Day 1?

Hi Amy - it's wonderful to have you with us.
I have a similar personality - it's been difficult. For years I thought alcohol was helping to calm me, but it ended up creating anxiety & misery instead.
You're among people who understand and care - welcome!

Totally understand Amy - I have a similar background. It's so much easier to quit than fighting it all the time.
There is a January class where people who quit this month give each other support. It really helps, you might want to pop in.
Glad you're here!
