Life is way way easier without drinking. Drinking is like having a massive weight tied to one leg. It just slows you down.
I reckon I can recognise a drinker now. A teaching colleague is always rocking up to school at the last minute. There are so many unexpected situations in teaching that you can’t do that. I’ve then watched him struggle through most of the morning in various states of stress. He must be shattered by the end of the day, and what do drinkers do to relax? This teacher is a clever guy, a PhD, and a nice guy too, but he needs to organise his life and if he’s drinking, stop.
But how do I know he’s a drinker? Because I was like that every morning for years. It’s stressful as hell. Now I can wake up (hangover free), look forward to going to work and getting there 20 minutes earlier so I can chill or deal with unexpected stuff.
I’m not going to say life’s easy without alcohol, but it’s 100% easier.

I'm absolutely thrilled for you, Steely, one whole year, you're super 😎 awesome! Coincidentally, I've read some of your posts recently, they were really great, and I thought to myself, Steely has a marked insightfulness and appreciation in sobriety, that's shining through. You are rocking sobriety, Steely ⭐️!
Thank you Tatsy. .
I don't go to AA, but know of the cliches. "The scales will fall from your eyes", seems to be what's happening, ever so slowly. I'm grateful, as least has taught.
