Not exactly a "Newcomer" but.....

I've been trying to stop drinking for five years now. Had three months sober a few years ago and ten weeks sober earlier in the year. I started a taper this past week with today being my "day 1" for hopefully the last time.

Make it so, Notch8.

I would really dig in to the "reasons" you gave yourself to have that first drink in the past. There has to be Zero excuses. Line in the sand. No turnback. I took every rationalization off the table with, "I don't drink no matter what."

You know what I mean.

Day one is hard. I hope neither one of us has to go through another one. Good to see you here. I know I can't do it alone. Do you have any support or a support group?

Hi,

It will be your last "day 1" if you quit reaching for alcohol.
Reach for something else.
You can do it. The question is - will you?

So so good to see you back Notch . . . . please circle every wagon you can to fight this . . . pull out the stops and make it your number one priority.

May this be your last day one!

I hope day 1 goes smoothly. Stay hydrated & eat whatever you can tolerate, stay busy but be sure to rest. Post for support.

Thanks for the support. I chose to make day 1 a Saturday, that way I'm not stressed about getting good sleep for work the next day.

Hi Notch. This time can be the last time. I tried for years. I now have over 12 yrs. sober. We have to be absolutely convinced that we can't touch the stuff. You can do it!

Glad you are trying again Notch8
Have you got a plan to deal with the kinds of things that bought you undone last time?

Great decision Notch. I remember kicking off Day 1, nervous about the whole thing. But here I am 10 months later knowing that I made the right decision about my life for one of the very first times. I am so very grateful. You will find same as the days begin to build.

It is so much better Notch. Hope Saturday goes well. How could it not? You won't be drinking.

I can't think of anything I detest more than detox day 1. Actually, yes I can think of something worse, day 2! I don't sleep at all on day 1 so day 2 is sleep deprived and anxiety ridden.

I just distract myself with a Netflix series that has enough episodes to go 72 hours. Good luck!

Don't just hope it's your last day one, make it so! In order to stay sober you must want to be sober more than you want to drink. Are you there yet?

Congrats on DAY 1. You can do this and you will be better off for it. Stay close to support, like SR, family and friends.
