Not exactly a "Newcomer" but.....
I've been trying to stop drinking for five years now. Had three months sober a few years ago and ten weeks sober earlier in the year. I started a taper this past week with today being my "day 1" for hopefully the last time.
Make it so, Notch8.
I would really dig in to the "reasons" you gave yourself to have that first drink in the past. There has to be Zero excuses. Line in the sand. No turnback. I took every rationalization off the table with, "I don't drink no matter what."
You know what I mean.

Great decision Notch. I remember kicking off Day 1, nervous about the whole thing. But here I am 10 months later knowing that I made the right decision about my life for one of the very first times. I am so very grateful. You will find same as the days begin to build.
It is so much better Notch. Hope Saturday goes well. How could it not? You won't be drinking.

I can't think of anything I detest more than detox day 1. Actually, yes I can think of something worse, day 2! I don't sleep at all on day 1 so day 2 is sleep deprived and anxiety ridden.
I just distract myself with a Netflix series that has enough episodes to go 72 hours. Good luck!
