Thankful For Illness

Good evening all, I hope you’re well!
I just wanted to share something that I’ve been laying here in bed thinking about, and smiling to myself about. It feels really weird to be grateful for health issues.
At the beginning of September of this year, I had some gastro episodes that sent me to the hospital. I ended up having a couple of CT scans, an MRI, A colonoscopy, and a few ultrasounds.
Before having the very interruptive gastro issues, (by before I mean for years and years I am 34, and have been drinking since I was around 19,) I would drink nightly. A lot. Way too much. Even through having cancer, and afterward when I was “so happy to be alive.”
Anyhow, I just wanted to post tonight to give she’s Some light on sobriety. I’ve been sober since the beginning of September, with an exception of two slip ups, and I could not feel more calm. The anxiety that was there while drinking has lessened, if not mostly disappeared. My depression has taken a spot on the back burner. I’m genuinely happy and at ease.

Thanks all for being here. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

It took me years to realize how alcohol affected my mental health. I binge-drank on weekends through my university years without much more than a Sunday morning headache.

When I began to drink more often and on to a daily basis, my moods became much darker. I was anxious and had this melancholy with me anytime I wasn't drinking. I went on anti-depressants because I told my doctor I was depressed.
The anti-depressants didn't do anything besides kill my libido because I continued to drink daily.

Glad you are feeling better!

Good to hear you are feeling better.
Quite recently I had a very bad response to a prescribed pain med.
Now off it and back on my old anti/dep and feeling better.
Bad stuff can always work for the good.......well sometimes.
