Eating way more food early sobriety
I was malnourished at the end of my drinking, I'm sure. It was nice to get my appetite back and I enjoyed eating because I didn't feel sick all the time anymore.
I gained a bit of weight but needed it so it was a good thing.

Um, yes. For me that would be an understatement. If it were possible to eat yourself to death on junk food and I had the energy to do it, I wouldn't have made it the first week. I think it's actually how I got rid of the cravings for the last week though. I'm on day 12 and I slowed down on the junk food last couple of days. Not that much, but I really believe it helps kill the cravings.
And I think it's probably much better than not being able to eat at all, because then I'd start fearing liver damage or something.
People may disagree with me, but I say if it helps get you through these early days, just grab the comfort food and not the alcohol.
