Should I be concerned?
Hello all.
Haven't been on here in ages..I wish I could say I'd stayed sober all this time but the truth is there's been a lot of stopping and starting.
So at present I'm on Day 10 and I'm feeling good but I'm a little worried. I have a Fitbit, and I do monitor my heart rate. On day one, I had a heart rate of 85bpm. Now at day 10 I'm at 65bpm....that's 20 bpm over 10days and averaging 2bpm decrease per day. Now I'm not feeling dizzy, the only difference this time around in being sober is that I haven't substituted sugar for alcohol. Every time I've tried before, I'd binge a lot on sweet stuff. However this time round I'm maybe having 1 bar of chocolate in a week, instead of 3-5 bars everyday. Should I be concerned about this decrease in heart rate?
Thanks for any help!

I could maybe phone but my Dr isn't seeing people and tbh, I'd prefer not to talk about this to a doctor. Just wondered had the same happened to anyone else. Like 65bpm is actually a good heart rate, it's just it's happened quite quickly this time!
Good to see you back Zombie
Like Anna said we can't give medical advice. 65bpm might be good for some and maybe not so good for others.
Best thing if this is really worrying you would be to.... see your Dr.
Congrats on 10 days

My heart rate sober is always 66 or 67 bpm.
At my most stressful time, back in my twenties, lived with a heart rate of 110+ each time I checked for 6 months.
The consequences of alcohol abuse are so hard on us.
checking with doc is best.

I picked up my tattle-tail fitbit a couple days after I stopped. Average BPM the first month was 75 with a high of 80.
I've had a couple that dipped to 66 in the last 10 months but seem to run around the low 70's.
My seems to change with job stress so your YMMV.
I can't say if this is good or bad just that I happy as hell being sober!
Congrats on the 10 days!

My heart rate and blood pressure always fell dramatically after a few days sober. This is an outcome that pleased my medical caregivers.
I agree that when you're concerned about your health, it's best to consult a professional. I know my provider would do a televisit with me and would have me come in to the clinic if she believed an in- person assessment was needed.
I understand health anxiety - I've had it bad in the past. If this concern doesn't (hasn't) lessened for you, definitely get in touch with a medical person. Stress is not good for us; whatever we can do to lessen anxiety is best, especially in early sobriety.

I have an Apple watch that monitors a lot of stuff including my heart rate. Variability in bpm is normal depending upon a lot of factors. Myself, I wouldn't be concerned.
However, If you are concerned, see a doctor. And please don't try to self diagnose anything using google.
