New Roads to tread for us all Weekenders 20 - 23 March 2020
Mags I had been supposing that you would be one on the watchlist. Well at least you can start organising your todo list and planning ahead.
TODO :
1) Get revenge on china
2)...
It's been a good day today for me. I am on official paid time off to look after mini vman.
I have to seriously start working on my sobriety tool box. At the moment I'm just keeping mega occupied but I know I need to go further.
One thing I really do enjoy more now is cooking.
Hope everyone has a good day today.

I contacted Weasel...he was the thread starter here for a couple years of my early sobriety. I also texted back and forth with Olive, don't know how many of you remember her/them.
It's good to reconnect. I don't have a burning desire to be around people and I'm not one for "meetings" but it's still good to remember from whence I came.
Vman, keeping mega occupied is a very big hammer to hit this with. I like that plan.

I just contacted a few SR friends as well. xxxxxxxxxx
Oh.....and PJ sends love to everyone....he is having big trouble getting online. Australia's internet is nothing like the one in the US....we are very lucky here.

Everything has changed yet nothing has changed. I socially isolate the majority of the time and now everyone is doing it or at least mean't to be.
Today I found myself panicking because the local takeaway is closed, I haven't used it in over a year! I guess its about having choices ...
Mags I am pleased the NHS are keeping you safe.
Loved the song yesterday Sao and the beautiful words that Bim and Venus reposted.
Had a very nice secluded walk with my boy.

Since the beginning of March, folding@home participation has jumped several fold, and more people are joining daily.
In a nutshell, Folding@Home allows you to connect your computer and use some of the power it has to form a virtual "supercomputer". This system is used for complex protein modeling and folding simulations, which are vital for finding cures for a number of diseases. With the jump in participation due to COVID-19, it has been reported that at times there are no work units to process, meaning that so many people are helping that they can't throw problems at it fast enough.
Years ago it was something mostly done by the computer power user or "geeky" crowd that was into building power systems for gaming and such. I was involved years ago, then got away from it as things changed in my life and computers were a lesser priority. But I think I might set up our current system again, and maybe add another from old parts laying around. Many people with modern computers have plenty of power to help.

For a couple bucks of electricity and a little wear on your computer, you can help with complex models and speed finding cures. Folding@home has contributed to research with various cancers, Alzheimer's, Hep C, and Parkinson's. It's an easy way for us to contribute to the scientific community and help with research.

Glad Weasel is doing well.
I hope everyone else is too. At the risk of sounding like a broken record if you are battling the urge to drink do post here or elsewhere on SR before picking up. People here will understand what you are going through.
Thanks for repainting Daisybelle's excellentpost SoberLeigh, very timely.

I made the banana loaf with chunks of dark chocolate and it is absolutely divine, specially warm from the oven. Already scoffed way more than I should have. Pretty pleased with myself lol. When I made it I realised how much stuff I have in the cupboards suitable for cake baking so going try a few recipes.
Went online today and many many websites that sell foodstuffs of some description have turned off their online shops and you can’t place any orders for anything until they have cleared the backlog of orders already placed. Dunno why but that makes me nervous for some reason. x

My wife saw this morning that a local farm is taking call-in-and-pick-up orders for their produce. They only grow like four things, but it's something. It's a good opportunity for food producers with limited markets.
My wife also said that the dog food she orders online was out last night as well, but she was able to order another brand.
Morning Weekenders
That’s funny Vinny.
I’m pleased you talked about how you’re feeling. I’ve found it really helps to share. Along with keeping busy and an active toolbox.
MantaLady your banana loaf with chunks of chocolate sounds divine. I think I’ve got some baking items in my cupboard, I might bake something too!
Lunar, I like the music. Since I’ve been on SR I’ve listened to and liked lots of music I’d never heard before.
Kaily beautiful picture of Alfie enjoying your walk.
Bim, nice that you got in touch with weasel, I remember him when I first came to SR. have you had any updates on Uzumma and baby?
CityBoy, I’ve not seen that pic before. Bidet of its finest!
See you later, take care, be safe and sensible and mostly stay sober. Drinking won’t help us, we need our wits about us, now more than ever, for us and our families. xx xx
