First day back to work sober
First day back to work sober
Not that I had a habit of going to work drunk, by any means, Haha. But I do struggle with anxiety of going to work and I (hubby and I) used to reward myself with a few drinks after work, say Wednesday, if I went to work both days. And at the end of the week, it was weekend! I could drink Friday, Saturday and Sunday (I work second shift, so I could take it light on Sunday night).
Now I feel like I just have.....nothing. Its day 5 for me and I've been admittedly very poor me'ish the last two days. I know to take work one day at a time and to maybe reward myself with something else at the end the week. But when you're as poor as I am, we literally dont have the money for a simple treat or anything.
Sorry for the rambling self pity post. I haven't had a full week at work in over a year now, so this is huge for me,.especially being sober. I hope this all gets a little easier soon....

part of being a sober grown up is to stop the practice of rewarding ourselves all the time. the AV loves to hear "I deserve this!" cuz it chimes in yes you do, so drink up!!!
a full week of work will be compensated on your paycheck. if you have not done so, start a budget right now.....income vs expenses. live within your means. reward yourself with a sound financial plan, bills paid, and money left in the bank.

Hi RHJ. That is awesome you are back at work. I knew it conceptually, but within a month of stopping drinking, I looked at my bank account and there was strangely more money in there than normal. You won't get rich over night but I think you will notice within a few weeks. I had a $30 per day drinking habit along with all of the myriad of terrible financial decisions that you make when you are drunk all the time. Daily bad food decisions, drunk to the store to get a bunch of bad food, fast food, then hop on Amazon and buy all sorts of stupid stuff. Hang in there Sister.
I'm glad that things went pretty well as you went back to work.
If you used the amount of money you spent on alcohol, you could probably manage to go out for coffee on the weekend or maybe rent a movie you've been wanting to watch?

I used to drink to relieve stress from work, but it got to where my drinking caused me stress, so I was actually increasing my overall stress level in my attempts to alleviate my stress. Talk about an insane cycle!
Sobriety removed the stress caused by my drinking, which decreased the overall stress level I was under and led me to being able to work on relieving remaining stress in more healthy ways. Much more productive path instead of a hamster wheel.

Hi Jen good luck at work. The first day back after the new year is a challenge for anyone, nevermind when you are newly sober.
