New here

Hi . This is my first post . Today is day six for me . Which is the longest I have been without a drink in a long time ( usually two bottles of wine a day ) I am loving hangover free days and being fully present at work and for my kids , but today is Monday my day off and I know this evening I will want to drink . My AV will tell me I have done so well , worked hard over the weekend I deserve a glass of wine . So I thought I would post here as the support you all give each other is amazing and I need to be reminded to NOT pick up a bottle of wine . I deserve a hangover and guilt free day tomorrow.
Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome and congratulations on six days.
Yes, you have worked hard, that's exactly why you don't need a drink.
Can you imagine the regret, anxiety and remorse you'll feel if you drink?
You've worked hard, you deserve NOT to drink. You'll be there for your kids and work.
Yes, you do deserve a hangover free day. You deserve a hangover free life.
You can do it. We can help.
Hang around here, it's great to have you. Remember, you never have to drink again.

Sounds great!
I find that if I am having trouble relaxing I drink calming teas. You can get those at the grocery store or online.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

Everyone's AV says, "You've done well. You deserve it," over and over again. The AV is really NOT very creative, but it doesn't need to be when everyone keeps falling for the same line every time.

Congratulations on your 7 days tomorrow. How's that for optimism?

welcome, Chippy.
what was useful to me was to get rid of the entire concept of "deserving" as far as rewards, as that concept perpetuated a bunch of negatives associated with sobriety and also wasn't addressing me as the person i really am. which is the person who doesn't have one nice, relaxing evening drink.
way to go on day 6!

Hi, Chippy. Welcome.
Watch at least two good movies. I say two because that's, give or take, 3-4 1/2 hours of distraction. Choose something not centered around bars/partying(not easy, I know). Or fast forward through any such scenes. It may sound cheesy, but it will help.
Good luck and enjoy your day off.

Welcome, Chippy.

Tell the AV to 'do one' and you will soon find that NOT drinking on Mondays becomes your new normal.

Great to have you onboard.

if there WAS such a thing as a test to get in this "club" it would likely be:

What is a good way to reward yourself for NOT drinking for X number of days?

if you answered, with a drink of course, then you're in!

glad you are here. do whatever it takes to stay sober. and don't let go!

Stock up on ice cream. When my cravings would start in, I would eat a big bowl of ice cream. By the time I finished, the craving was over.

Welcome to SR!

Hi Chippy! Welcome and Congrats on 6 days! I was a 1 - 2 bottle of wine a day girl as well . My trigger seemed to be 4:30pm because I get off work at 5:00pm. What helped me was getting on here and posting when I felt like I really wanted to drink so for like the first week I was posting here every day at 4:30 pm and just talking about how I wanted to drink and there was always someone here to talk me off the ledge. I am 1 year and 9 months sober It is a good feeling waking up and not being hungover!

Welcome aboard Chippy

I try and remember rewards are meant to be good things - going back to drinking is not a good thing for drinkers like us
