Day 14

Well, I cannot believe I have been AF for two weeks now. I am also glad that I now understand about PAWs, as I wake up with a headache every day and feel fatigued. However, I still feel 100% better without alcohol.

My friend explained that the dark urine in the morning is because during the night a hormone (ADH) supresses urine production (probably so you are not getting up all the time in the night to pee) which wears off throughout the morning. Alcohol suppresses that hormone, hence why my urine was almost as clear as water in the morning when drinking alcohol. Darker urine in the morning is normal, as long as it gets clearer throughout the day.

I have to say that I have had to be pretty diligent these couple of weeks, in doing everything possible to stop drinking though. Last night, after spin class, I got the usual urge, but drank loads of water instead, showered, and got into my PJs in front of the TV with a ready-prepared pasta dish ASAP. The urge passed, and I soon felt nice and relaxed.

There have also been two 'firsts' for me this week. Although I am on leave, I had to go to in for a work meeting on Wednesday. After work on Wednesdays, I would usually drinking more than usual, knowing that I work from home on Thursdays as I have a clinic appointment (I take warfarin....which you are not supposed to drink with! Yet, another positive reason to give up). It was nice to go to my clinic appointment without the usual Thursday hangover from Hell.

I am getting all my bloods done this afternoon and will keep folks on SR posted with my results.

Thanks all on SR for being there for me and everyone else.

Yes, congratulations on two weeks. And, yes, stay diligent and vigilant.
Best to you in sobriety.

Hi Badga, that’s the main battle right there. That urge is very unpleasant and it’s partly also habit to just go and get a drink. As you say, the urge passes after a while, but it takes willpower and effort to ignore it at first.

That urge will fade I promise after a few more weeks. It’s funny, though, as I still instinctively head to the corner of my grocery store where the wine is kept even though my urge is all but gone.

Hope all goes well with the results, but even if they’re not great, they’ll improve loads if you keep this up.
