Steak and ale stew
Hi , I dont post much these days . Slowly but surely getting out of a long bout of emotional turmoil which added a ton of anxiety/depression and a myriad of physical symptoms that these conditions throw at us .
Too the point which I find so funny ( thank God) .
My wife needs extra iron in her diet and on top of the supplement the consultant advised ,liver , red meats ,loads a dark greens and wait for it ...... Guinness . So off I go and buy a 4 x 440ml cans of the dark Irish brew ( which was a fav of mine in the bad old days ).
Proceeded to do the stew with these ingredients : 1 Lb lean rump , 2 large roughly chopped onions , 1 tin chopped tomatoes , 1 crushed clove garic , 2 big carrots chopped about a cm in size , half pint of water ,pinch sea salt , 2 melty beef stock cubes ( later on with some bisto best granuals ) and of course the Guinness !!!!!! never done this before so how much Guinness ??? I went for 3/4 of a can gave it all a good stir , in the oven at 150degrees C 3 hours , stir after an hours and in with the melty cubes . Now here was the issue !!!! get my wife to drink the rest of the Guinness which was all but impossible , we held her nose , had her close her eyes but the minute it touched her mouth she ran and spat it out . Needless to say she hates it . Do I drink it ? don't be silly . so down the sink it went ( didn't want to spoil the dish with too much G ) . Anyway long story short , along with a few potatoes it was the most wonderful stew we have ever tasted .
Then Connor my son says "that's you off the wagon dad !!!!! jokingly .
PS : got 3 more stews to make to use up the Guinness .
Thanks for being here folks

Skip the Guinness. It’s not worth having it around. Especially when there are other, better options such as:
Spinach
Shellfish
Red meat
Liver & organ meats
Legumes
Quinoa
Dark Chocolate
Pumpkin Seeds
Turkey
Broccoli
Tofu

Hi hpdw
You know how a community like this works by now
I'm a fairly happy go lucky guy, good semse of huopur (I think) but for some of us the fight has been pretty life and death serious.
I don't use alcohol in anything I cook for example....
diff'rent strokes, right?

I see what alcohol does . Seeing my son being dragged away by 4 policemen to jail for a year rips me to shreds and that was 10 months ago . I know what alcohol does to me too and I do not need reminded of that "life or death part of alcoholism .
All I done was make stew ,get a grip .

I read somewhere that when sending a post or message on whatever platform whether its a forum , a text , social media etc , if your gut feeling says it doesn't seem right or it makes you feel negative it is , delete it and come back later . Put this too the test and you will find it to be true .

I get that Dee , I went against a long standing conviction regarding "how you feel " before you hit the send button and if its negative do not send it and contradicted myself all in one fell swoop . As I say not in any way meaning to annoy anyone I realize I only succeeded in confusing myself .
I am happy to have this awkward thread removed with the greatest respect and gratitude for the work you do here Dee .
PS , i'm sticking to fresh turkey and broccoli today
