Weakning

I'm on holidays for a few days AND I can feel myself weakening big time
I'm nearly 7 months
All the holiday makers are sitting out and all I want right now is a glass of wine
Just wanted to post this

Play the movie out. See where it leads you.

7 months is terrific.

I wouldn't be happy with "one" glass.

For me, "one" glass was nothing but a fantasy. The reality is more like ten messy, regretful glasses.

7 months is fantastic, please don't ruin it with a distorted fantasy. How much more are you able to enjoy your holiday through a sober lens? Actually being present, remembering every single thing you get to choose to do?

Priceless memories untainted.

Be thankful you are not drinking poison, that is what it is after all. I am an example of a relapse mess just now trapped with the poison. Wish I was on holiday with 7 months free.

Not drinking is easy.
Dealing with how you feel when you're not drinking - not always so easy.

If you want a stronger body you have to work it hard.

By finding something to do other than drinking right now your mind is getting the equivalent of a hard workout - and it WILL get stronger as a result.

You got this.

Good of you to post first.

Drinking begets more drinking. Don't start. A sober vacation isn't a punishment. Re-read your last post:

7 months is brilliant don't give it up. I really miss sitting in the sun with a nice glass of white wine but I try really hard to push the thoughts aside and not dwell on it otherwise I'll drive myself crazy. I concentrate instead on the beautiful day, plus afternoon drinking always gave me a headache so there's that. Stay strong!

Cara, maybe you can find something else to do for awhile when the others are drinking. I'm glad you posted. Hang in there!

I'm with Anna, go to a museum or a show or a walk - or - I don't where you are but a nap always works, too. And food! Make sure you've eaten well, it kills a lot of cravings.

It is that first drink that leads you down that awful path. Indulge yourself in some food and desserts!

Watch the drinkers in the morning going through the the groggy stages while you keep an even keel. That helped me.
You are free to do as you please now you don’t drink.
7 months is great.
Don’t become re-shackled.

Plenty of ice cream and water.
It’s a test that you can cross of the list and become more capable to deal with.

I don’t want one glass of any alcohol, I’ve realized. It’s like one piece of popcorn for me. What’s the point?

In reality, I want 6-8 drinks. Then I want to fully remember the night, not do anything embarrassing or fall down, and wake up fresh as a daisy.

Funny how it never works out like that.

I'm right there with you at the 7 month mark, and having cravings, or at least lots of passing thoughts, of alcohol for the first time in a while. They seem to have come out of nowhere, because I've feeling so strong in my recovery. I find it helpful to go back to the "one day at a time" approach, all we have to do is get through minutes, hours, and eventually days until this phase passes. It's such a great sign that you posted here first...you can most definitely get through this rough patch.
