I can describe to you literally dozens of times when I thought I could 'moderate my drinking tonight', and failed.
They were important things too.
My brother and sisters weddings - no recollection, meeting my then spouses parents...only flashes. Turning up drunk for gigs or not turning up at all...
Our inner addict wants us to think we can moderate whenever we want provided we try hard enough but thats just not true in my experience.
Its that first drink that starts the madness.
After that first drink I have no control over what happens next.
Sure sometimes things turn out ok, but that wasn't down to me, it was dumb luck.
