It’s simple, but not easy—but in order to pull the plug, you really have to pull the plug on everything for awhile.

It can be done: all of us here are living proof.

You can do it. The really torturous phase doesn’t last that long.

Tie yourself to the mast like Ulysses did!

You will come through victorious if you have every tool at the ready.

Use SR 24/7 if necessary; go to AA or another face-to-face meeting and get a sponsor—at least get phone numbers from people in the group. When they say “call,” they’re not just being polite: they truly want to help you the second you need it.

I ‘ll be praying for firm resolve, strength, and clarity for you, Snuf.

You can do it!

I’m sending you much support: you’ve had a horrible experience, and I hope you’re soon recovered. And, once you are, please take the time to work out what caused you to drink and put a plan in place so that this doesn’t happen again. Recovering starts with the desire to stay sober, but you will need a plan to keep you on track. I don’t think simple white-knuckling works for anyone really, and it certainly wouldn’t have worked for me.

All my very best to you.

Hi Snufkin, i'm glad you are reaching out.

Trying to avoid that first one is the crucial thing. For me that meant getting up early and walking or running enough that I felt tired in the evening and could sleep from about 10.30pm onwards and avoid the worst of the cravings.

I'm sorry that you are hurt, maybe you could use that to get some extra NHS support which is patchy by all account but if you have visible injuries but not presenting as an emergency it might prompt them into offering to help.

Good luck and stick around - myself and many others have been to the same place as you.

Meh... thank you for asking Rar... I think it’s the lowest I’ve ever been and I wish I didn’t have to go that far with all this to start taking things seriously, but here I am... The cuts on my arm were pretty bad so I needed some stitches and now I’m blessed with scars screaming ‘psycho’ for the rest of my life. I don’t know... I’m just glad nothing worse happened. Once I feel better I have to think about what to do next. Right now I’m so destroyed I can’t move, eat or focus on anything... ugh. Everything’s painful.

I’m so sorry, Snuf. I hope you feel less depressed in the morning.

You’ve got your whole future in front of you, and there’s no reason it can’t be very, very good.

I'm really glad you went to the ER Snuf. Try some vitamin E cream on those scars, once they've healed.

I said last time it was serious - sounds like it's moved into deadly now. I've lost friends on SR - don't be another on the list Snuf.

Do whatever is available, AA or anothe rmeeting based group like SMART or lifering, rehab, inpatient or outpatients, Drs, therapists...the lot.

and remember its the first drink that starts the madness.

Don't take that first drink,. Post here instead.

D

I'm glad you went to the hospital and were taken care of.

Did they offer any help with the alcohol issues?

Let this be the last time, please. We care about what happens to you. I hope you get some good rest.

Fresh start on the rest of your life, Snufkin.

I'm thankful you lived to try again. You are needed here.

It's poison to us - every time we pick up we have no idea where it will lead. We might not make it back. It would be a tragedy to lose you, Snufkin.

I’m safe now, Icewater. Thank you so much for asking. I’m trying to get some sleep now, but I’m just very sick. Well, I did this to myself...

Thank you so much, Rar and Gilmer. ❤️ Your support means the world to me.

Unfortunately I’m still unwell. It feels like I was beaten up with a hammer. I properly poisoned myself so I’m afraid it’s gonna take me another day or two to get better...

Never again I want to feel like this.

Stay close! You never have to feel like this again. Try to hydrate and maybe eat some toast or some chicken noodle soup? How about some calming tea?
