Understanding how we keep anxiety going helps me .
Sounds strange but the mechanism we humans have is millions of years old and hasn,t changed . I'm sure you have heard of flight or fight . Its a brilliant system involving Adrenalin ,cortisol and other hormones . Its vital when we are in danger and kicks in automatically and when the danger is over goes back to normal . The problem with people who suffer ongoing anxiety symptoms is it is stuck on the ON position and we keep it there with fearful thinking and behaviours .
There are many books on how this works and for many people understanding is enough to begin the healing .
Here is a start :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fight-or-flight_response
I found this very helpful :NOTHING WORKS - NOTHING WORKS
The problem I had was although I understood I didn't work on the suggestions enough , I was lazy so the anxiety persisted . I am getting there now though slow but sure .
I also got a referral from my GP to an online CBT course Beating the Blues® funded by the NHS .
Good luck
