Yet another mistake, yet another moment of thanks for sobriety

Wow, this summer has been a whopper. One thing after another. I made yet another mistake this week, I had on my planning for the agriturismo that I run that guests would be arriving this coming Thursday, the 17th. So yesterday, on check out day, we cleaned the apartments that were scheduled to arrive yesterday and left this one apartment to b taken care of Monday. Well, I made a mistake, they had sent an email changing the date of arrival and I forgot (or it got lost during the computer crash, I don't know) to change it on the calendar. At 1am I received a call from the gardener that lives on the property that the family was at the gate waiting to check in. I was MORTIFIED and SICK over this mistake. I apologised profusely and said I would come right away. I was up at the villa within minutes and raced to change the beds and clean the apartment as quickly as possible. THE ENTIRE TIME I just kept thinking"thank God I am sober, thank God I am sober, thank God I am sober" It was a thought that would not leave my head, just over and over and over I felt so thankful that I am sober. I heard the phone ring because I wasn't passed out, I was sober and could jump out of bed instead of take minutes to come to and figure out what to do, I was sober and able to drive up there, I was sober and quick on my feet to clean as fast as possible, I was clear in my speech and thought patterns to profusely apologise to the guests. I was so so so thankful. So thankful.
The guests were absolute top notch people, so understanding and calm throughout it all. I am headed there now to finish the floors (they wanted to get their kids to bed after the long flight) and will offer them dinner at a local restaurant of find some other way to apologise for the mishap.

I LOVE MY SOBRIETY.

OMG! I was literally holding my breath reading. Kudos to you for being at your best and sober. The mistake doesn't matter... Everyone makes them. The biggest problem would've been if you'd not been there to quickly take care of the situation. And you were. Again, kudos to you!

so not Fawlty Towers, good for you M. Yes- the compound interest on sobriety is sometimes hard to see, in the moment- but it does add up.

Great stuff Meraviglioso, sobriety rocks.

Your guests may even be more impressed by your effort and sincerity than they would have been if the room was ready.

Mera,

I say that all the time too.

Thank God I'm sober.

I wake up for work sometimes at 2 am. I have a dangerous and long drive each time. I used to somehow do that drunk. Addiction is a nightmare.

Great post.

Thanks.

Mera I am so glad to hear things worked out too!

Yeah, I have had many moments big and small that I thank God for my sobriety.
And the getting behind the wheel sober is a consistent once for me too.

The clarity of mind for dealing with tricky situations is a blessing too.
Really I am glad to hear it all worked out. Good job.

Sobriety is awesome. Those thoughts run through my mind when I'm interacting with my kids. It really has made a difference with them and most every other part on life. There is nothing better than a clear head.

I know! There have been a few times since I stopped drinking when I have said, "Whew. Glad I was sober for that one."

Wow .. Excellent!

Glad the family were good folks.

Mistakes happen... It's how we handle them that matters!

Sounds like you handled it well.... and Sober sure does help!!

Phew!!!!

And oh my God, I know exactly what you mean. I had to arrange hotels and second flights for some clients who had their flights cancelled at layover due to weather. Airline didn't cover it. 11 PM. Had to get them all to hotels and back to the airport in the morning with no notice. I was able to drive, able to be calm, able to be soothing, able to be polite but firm with airlines, think clearly, etc. and, I even looked ok.

A year prior and that could have been a deal breaker for my job.

Mera, I too am very glad you were sober and could handle the situation. Now you know that you can make a mistake, make the necessary amends and stay sober!! Especially the "stay sober" part.

Making a mistake does make You a mistake. I'm so proud of you.
