I'll be back!

I've decided, after reading some things online and posts here, that it would probably be best if I did a taper rather than just attempting to quit drinking so quickly. Instead of using my drink of choice (red wine), I'll be using beer (yuck haha). That way I won't be so tempted to drink more than needed. Once I finish the taper, I'll be back to make my Day 1 post, hopefully towards the end of this week

Looking forward to seeing you, and there's no reason you can't post in the meantime.

What's the taper plan you have scheduled? Be sure to post every day!

Tapering never worked for me.

If you find you're not able to reach or stick to your downsize target every day maybe its worth reconsidering it then.

As others have said, no reason why you can't post here Jaz - this is a place for people who want to quit and you fit that demographic

PS Just no detailed taper plans please

A detailed taper plan might conflict with our medical advice rule.

Medical and Psychiatric advice includes giving a diagnosis, treatment plan, medication advice and dosage suggestions, over the counter and natural home remedies that should be approved by medical professionals. Detox can be dangerous and life threatening at times. Please consult with your physician.

I tried to taper for about 3 years....then I just got sober...

Almost died in the process.

Tapering isn't necessary. Just quit and stop trying to bargain for time.

Not entirely sure what you mean by the bit I've bolded but feel free to PM me.

Like the rule says
detox can be dangerous and life threatening at times. Please consult with your physician.
We've never allowed the posting of detailed taper plans here.
That's advice you should be getting one on one from your Doctor.

I think we should avoid blanket statements and stick to our own experience.

Tapering wasn't possible for me. That's an experience statement.

Like Forwards says some people are advised to taper by their doctor, regardless of what you I or anyone thinks about it.....

The point stands that folks shouldn't be getting their medical advice from SR

Well thank you for your opinion. You may not feel it's necessary, and it may not be, but it is giving me peace of mind. From what I've read, I have a 50% chance of having major wd symptoms based on the amount of alcohol I've been consuming. I'm using beer, which I don't even enjoy, and I'm not getting drunk so I'm not trying to 'bargain for time'. Going from 12ish drinks a day to nothing and fearing tremors/hallucinations/etc was just going to add to the anxiety I know I'm going to experience once I quit for good. I'm 100% committed to quitting, and I'm doing it in the way that works best for ME.
