Is this strange???
I'm here because I am giving it my best shot at becoming sober. Anyway, the only booze I crave is Captain Morgan. I could have wine, beer, brandy or any other alcohol and I don't care to drink it. I'll be having ridiculous cravings but if I was out of the Captain then I have nothing. Even though I have other types of alcohol. Is this strange? Weird?
Hi myluckyday
It's not strange to me - I had types of alcohol preferred over others for many years.
Sadly I drank to the point that any alcohol did the trick - usually the one with best bang for my buck.

My thing was sparkling white, and when I was drinking I made sure I never ran out because it gave me anxiety. Towards the end of my drinking, though, I was starting to drink whatever was around.
But I can relate, when I stopped drinking it took me a week or so to notice the Kahlua in the fridge, I didn't want to drink it but I still got rid of it quick smart because I knew if the urge came upon me I'd drink it.
I still won't risk being around wine, too soon for me!

Meh. An alcohol addiction is an alcohol addiction, you just preferred the taste of that one.
I don't crave wine or beer, which is what I drank compulsively. I got on a Bailey's kick, and I got on an apple Crown kick. That was pretty tasty with ginger ale. I still don't crave it because as tasty as it may be.. it has alcohol in it and that turns my stomach now. I've put so much work in to this..

Mine was exclusively cider.Started off with a vile brew called 'white lightening',which wasn't even made from apples! Then 18yrs of drinking organic cider. My favourite tipple has been cranberry juice, since I became sober last summer.
Cravings speak with limited language.
Like a repeat loop, an obsessive thought.
It is in their exact lack of creativity & flexibility that they show their weak spots!
If you crave a single form of alcohol, so much the easier to disregard that craving!!
I have found the similar with drugs. I have only two drugs of choice (cocaine & weed). I have to be clear with myself about not "replacing" with other forms (like alcohol), because I know that it is a bridge to what I actually want. But in terms of "cravings" my AV has a very limited vocabulary!
This is likely easier in the long run than people who have to deal with the voice of an AV who is not so specific! Less options means more clarity & ease...

Madgirl - my fridge is full of the La Croix! Bubbly water with flavors!
That is what I take to events, keep in my work fridge, offer every guest.
Tons of cans for recycling - I make the sound of a waterfall of cans when I dump them in the bin (but feel no shame!).
We should have all bought stock in that company about 5 years ago...
