Welcome 73hope! You can do this, it seems hard at first, trust me I know. I'm recently starting over at day 4 after almost 3 years. I can tell you everyday gets a little easier. The people here are friendly and amazing, this site helped me a lot the first time around and it's helped me so much in the last 4 days. You can do this! Stay positive and look at the post Dee made about a recovery plan. good luck

My doctor prescribed Naltrexone. I don't know if it helps, but my detox went/is going fine. I'm fully functional even after I ate about 20 hydrocodone Friday afternoon.
Call your doctor and be frank, they are there to help.

I did a taper to quit. No meds - not then and not now.
Sudden withdrawal can present significant medical problems, but don't keep drinking out of fear of withdrawal: there are inexpensive meds you can be prescribed for the few days of detox.
I did not know that, and just did it. It was uncomfortable. I survived. Some people can't manage a self-taper. I was able to - your method is yours to figure out. If you are afraid, see a doctor.

Hey hope,
How are you doing today? We all want to help, but it's difficult if you don't feel you can share a bit more. Your anonymity is absolute here (unless you actually want to break confidentiality). We only know what you say you need, and we want to help because no one here ever gave up on us. If you lapse or relapse, we are here to help and will never call you a "failure." As far as medication goes, the options are many, but this depends on your symptoms, over-all condition, etc. Personally I don't trust Drs. much, but have found a few who don't judge me. If you don't feel you trust your Dr. immediately look for one you can, This can be accomplished, and some of us perhaps can help you with the "vetting" process. Just keep in touch, OK? The more you 'vent' or get off your chest here, the better you will feel.
Stay safe, Dame.

Thinking more and more about calling my doctor. Can it just be my family doctor? I will say I am very conscious about how much I drink and am trying to taper! I feel horrible being here on the site and not being sober though. I'm scared cause I don't want to miss work during a detox!!!!
