Day 1 of the latest chapter in my life

Hi Everyone!

My name's Rikki and I'm from the UK but working and living in Ecuador this year as a volunteer.

I am an alcoholic which is definitely something I'm not proud of. However I am very resolute and determined to turn my life around, and start fresh as a strong-willed and sober person.

My relationship with alcohol has been extremely rocky and caused serious friction with my family. I feel I have been deeply selfish the past few years with them, and it really isn't fair to keep putting them through what I have done to them any more.

I know this will be day by day but I am patient and never more determined to succeed . I want to be the person I know I can be, happy, confident and sober.

I look forward to meeting and talking to new people on here. This is my first day sober.

Welcome Rikki!

I'm glad you posted. It's a good idea to come up with a plan as to how you will stay sober and recover. Here are some ideas:

Welcome Rikki,

Why don't you join our class of August 2016? It's a great place to connect with people at the same point in sobriety. I'm on day 2 (again) but have used SR as support to get and stay sober in the past.

It's a great place...welcome xo

Welcome Rikki! The link Anna posted is a great starting point, as well as joining the August class. You will be surrounded by others who have also decided to get sober this month.

I look forward to seeing you on here.

Welcome! A plan is an excellent way to begin your new life.

My boyfriend always says we have three chapters - where our lives began (we grew up), where we lived (in our adult choices and lives, which included our drinking) and what the Third Chapter will be. We get to write it, soberly. That's incredibly exciting and liberating.

Wishing you a new and sober life. You can do it.

The great thing about a new chapter of life is that while the old chapters will always be there you won't have to relive them if you change the way you think. You can just reference bits and pieces of the past for clarity in your present chapter and leave the bulk of it behind.

Glad to see you back......soooo, what's the plan this time? A couple of us AA-ers have piped in already; others use SMART or other recovery programs. All of us have something that we center our sobriety around and that's why it works.

Determination is great- turn it into action. You do not have to get or stay sober alone, and I highly recommend "in person" as well as online support.

My plan consists of brainwashing myself every day against the poison that is alcohol. Here are just some of the many reasons to give it up:

1, Less anxiety (I get this very badly when I drink)
2, More self-respect
3, Better skin, eyes etc
4, More energy
5, More Money

I could write more but this will do for now. I will be posting daily updates on the August class wall. Just nearing the end of Day 2 now.
