When will I learn?
When will I learn?
This is the second time in as many weeks that I have gone to the ER for alcohol withdrawals because the idea of going through it without meds is too scary. How is it that I can spend thousands of dollars to detox, get drunk the following week and then go on a four day bender and do it all over again? Good God I am so tired of being this way. I HAVE to change this time.
I went to an AA meeting in Vegas one time. A guy there told the story of when he went to rehab for his third time. got out after 45 days and on the plane got wasted. He wound up coming to out of a blackout two weeks later in Phoenix (instead of LA where he was heading home to) in a seedy motel with no money and his family thinking he was dead because he'd been missing so long.
That had been several years ago, and he was sober and working his program daily.....
I guess the short answer to "when will I learn" is this;
You will stop this madness when the pain of the path you are on becomes greater than the fear you have of change.
HOWEVER - the good news is that at ANY TIME.... YOU CAN CHOOSE.
"I have reached the point that I want to be my bottom. I now choose, with everything I've got, to start the climb back up. I now choose to embrace sobriety and I am willing to do whatever it takes".
The caveat is that you must follow that choice up with ACTION, you must re-choose it every day and you must support it with actions, every day.
The other good news is that if you DO choose that..... the choosing will become easier and easier as you go, and the resulting life you'll build will become better and better.

Take it as a daily reminder...If you drink again, this will happen or worse.
The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to STOP drinking.
Have you considered AA, they've helped me immensely. Maybe they can help you too?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think my first post on here was 6 years ago so needless to say I've done a puss poor job of getting sober. My life has become a complete disaster. After I stop feeling like I am going to die I will start AA again. Lets just hope this time I dont leave my sobriety chip in the bottom of an empty shot glass at a bar (I seriously did that.)
SoberRecovery is the same as AA--it works if you work it! Here's a couple good threads to join:
