So I've decided to try tapering off vs. Cold turkey. Any advice?

Welcome to the forum Kris, sorry I can't offer advice on tapering off other than it never worked for me having tried it a few times over the past 20+ years.

Wish you the very best
Andrew

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

Tapering is extremely difficult to do once drinking has reached a certain level. It's very easy while doing the taper to lose focus and just slip back into old habits. It takes more willpower than most people can summon.

And on the flip side, cold turkey has its dangers. Please read up and make sure you understand the risks. It's never a bad idea to ask a doctor -- they are not judgmental and can give you advice.

I'm so glad you've decided to make a positive change for yourself. Life does improve! Let us know how you plan to proceed and we'll do our best to support.

Welcome to the family. I never could taper, I always ended up drinking more than I planned. Best and safest thing to do is see your doctor for medical help to get thru the initial acute withdrawal.

I hope the support here can help you get sober for good.

Welcome to the Forum CaliKris!!

Withdrawals can vary depending on the person, so it's very important to check in with a Dr, just to be safe.

Moving forward, having a recovery plan is important, I couldn't do it on my own, signing up to SR is a great start as you'll find loads of support here, but make sure you utilise it when times get tough, as in isolation your addiction can easily convince you of anything.

Great to have you onboard!!
