Passed 6 months
So this week I passed 6 months sober. Awesome!
I never thought in my human lifetime I would get this long sober so far. For the majority of my adult life 1-2 weeks maximum is the longest I've ever been sober then I've found some insanely trivial reason to get drunk.
I went into hospital detox on 30th May 2015, and 31st May was my first sober day. Since getting out I attended rehab lots with their groups and lots of SMART, AA and NA meetings. I used to go to around 8 AA/NA per week for 9 months, pre-sobriety. I had a sponsor and did the Steps with him. He went to another country and I got a new one who I liked. I still pray when I remember to, because I find it helps me, and I attend approx 2 AA meetings a week now. I started back uni in Sept and being sober has made me realise that my subject is not what I want to do as Bill Wilson said in "Bill's Story": 'by the time I had completed the law, I knew the law was not for me' only swap law for psychology. So I am looking for a new profession, but I do not know what yet. The world is my oyster innit. My health is much better not bloated, liver now good, weight substantially down with the gym and diet help. I feel free actually, more free than ever, a free man at last.
It is true what they say "it keeps on getting better" and sobriety is the best thing I have ever done! Despite some set backs and nearly getting drunk a few times I hope to continue on this path because it is much better than what I had before!
