what age did you get sober?
Knowing that people, like me, got sober after 50 is encouraging to those who may think it is too late. It is never too late. I know some who where able to achieve sobriety past 60.
I just hope that doesn't influence the 'younger' crowd to think they can wait it out.
I missed too much because I waited too long. I wish I could roll back time and get sober twenty/thirty years ago. If you are reading this, you already have a problem, or believe you do. Don't wait until it is too late. The longer you wait, the tougher it becomes. And do not think there is some proverbial "rock bottom" definition that you have to meet for you to turn your life around. Don't wait for something horrible to happen to suddenly wake you up. Sometimes those horrible, life changing events turn into the last event.
It's good to know that people at any age can get sober. It's bad to think you have time to wait.

Hi! I saw you are in Florida on the east coast and so am I. I lost my 20s, 30s, and a few years in my 40s because of my drinking. I would drink an entire BIG bottle of knob creek (100 proof) in a weekend and be out by Sunday so I had to always have a few on hand. Sad waist of my life.
What made me quit was me deciding to do this for ME! Not anyone else but for me. Yes, being selfish. I tried several times to quit and each time came back here with my sad story of drinking again for whatever stupid reason. I'm an extremely successful, intelligent, beautiful woman and I was letting this destroy every chance of true happiness for my life! 6 months ago I finally declared no more! This is my life and my choice to be happy!
I had someone private message me the link below. But this is what I did to quit. I made a personal commitment to quit - to me! I'm not religious so only I can save me! No meeting is going to save me. I follow this AVRT. I made a personal commitment to me sober! I'm not sober because of my kids, boyfriend, job... I'm sober because this is my life and my happiness. If I'm not happy with myself how can I be happy toward anyone else? My commitment is to ME! Yup :-)
Not sure what will work for you but I wish you well on getting sober. The first week really sucks bad! Really bad. But suck it up and push forward. Life is better! I commit to the 24 hour board everyday and it's my way to celebrate another day of getting my life back! :-)
Good luck!

I was on my first time at being 39. I had become the poster child for that recovery anecdote regarding the allergy part of the definition of alcoholism/addiction....................: I was allergic to alcohol (all drugs, for that matter); every time I put any drug in my body, I broke out in handcuffs......................

I quit a year and a half (ish) ago at 24. I knew I had a problem by 22.
When I came here I learned that the condition is progressive, and I should jump off the crazy train as soon as I could. I couldn't have done it without SR.

At age 22 I became abstinent for 7 1/2 years.
At age 44 I got involved with recovery. This included not using any drugs, of which alcohol is one.
Recovery has made all the difference.

60.
A lil over 2 Years ago. Definitely had my fill, and that did make it 'easier'. For me, anyway.
My unique take is that my 42 Years of Drinking/Drugging 'had' to happen in order for me to have had 'enough', and for Sobriety to now to stick. Effortlessly. I greatly admire 'you Kids' tackling what I would term 'The Inevitable', and stopping at various younger ages. We each have our respective 'right' ages at which The Big Light Bulb turns on.
It's all an interesting Past, and one I simply feel no 'pull' to slide back into. Been there. Drank that. Life now is sweet.
