Day 5.. almost 6.

Hey all.

Just going to let you guys know how my 5th day being sober went. I'm 29 years old , been drinking since I was around 21 ish... a lot heavier after loosing my Mother to Cancer. Drink of choice: Beer and Wine. Id easily down a 12 pack daily.. wine really messed me up. Last weekend I woke up with blood all over my pillow and didn't even remember how I busted my chin over. I'm lucky it wasn't worse, I could have really hurt myself and not even have known how it happened. I just saw blood in the hallway .. looked like a murder scene. It was scary and hit me with a reality check. I found this website and it has helped TONS !!!!

The first few days of my sobriety I was going through hella withdrawals like,, sweating , a=mad anxiety, hard to breath , barely could sleep. I'm now on day 6 and and I woke up feeling SO much better. No shakiness , I could think a lot clearer and stay focused. I was a lot less tired too. I went to the store and walked right by the beer isle and felt so proud. Seeing other people with beer in their hands I was like, That WAS me. I don't want to erase these hard ass days I've worked for to stay sober. I know its early but I am being strong and diverting my hobbies to other things(walking, reading, writing, cooking.. )

Just wanted to let all you guys who think its impossible to quit. Its not its mind over matter. Stay strong yall and thanks to all the supporters here on SB !

Cheers - Dru

Sobriety date 09/20/15

Glad things are getting better Dru...stay vigilant tho - there's likely to be a few more bumpy bits along the way

Yeah, my sobriety date is 9/21 and I'm going through the same symptoms, except I had extreme anger and depression the first 48 hours. Let's go through this one time and be done with it!

Make a plan of how to handle yourself if in a few days or weeks you start thinking it is okay to drink again.

That's what still keeps me on track , remembering how sick alcohol made me in the end then to deal with the with drawls . Being 29 kicking alcohol now is the best thing you could ever do Most of us wasted our youth - chasing that Crap . I started later , the older you are stopping ( I think) rougher on the body . It just doesn't bounce back as fast . Yea for you !!

Congrats and great job Dru! I wish I had made the decision to quit when I was 29. I spent over 2 decades wasted with heavy, daily drinking. This is going to take some serious work, but trust me that you will never regret the decision to give up drinking. The rest of your life is waiting for you. 6 days is great.

Fantastic job! Glad you found us.

Great job Dru. Your post is a stark reminder of the things many of us went through sobering up. Its horrible. Glad you walked past the beer isle. Have a great sober weekend.

Dru, you are so smart to do this while you are so young. Your 30's and 40's are incredible decades of your life and I wasted all 20 of those years drinking. Welcome to SR.
