Failing
I need to quit drinking starting today. Lastnight was the last straw after I threw half a bottle of beer at my partner and it smashed all over his computer desk and then attempted to punch him in the head. He then retaliated by strangling me I though I was going to die. I need help

Make a recovery plan and follow it. It will take a lot more than saying you need to quit. You will get plenty of good advice here at SR. The good news is you never have to feel like this again. Proud of you for taking the first step in coming here. You are already in the minority by just doing that. The majority of people with drinking issues go a life time with alcohol causing chaos in their life and don't do a thing about it. Good luck.
Enough is enough.
That's how I felt when I quit. Just look at what alcohol is doing. And it's going to get worse if you don't stop.
Good for you for finding is and posting. There's a great group of people here in the same boat and there's a ton of people here who have been there and done that, but are now free.
Welcome.

Thanks everyone. Yeah im ok, just feeling very sorry for myself. Im soo sick of all the drama and depression caused by alcohol. I know its not going to turn out good so why must I always want to drink? I crave it when I dont drink for 3 days and then get smashed drunk and make a fool of myself.. get depressed.. stay in bed and then do it all over again 3 days later. Eth

There's antabuse available I guess, but you're best to consult a doctor on that one. It basically induces alcohol withdrawal symptoms by drinking even the smallest amount.
Aside from that, there isn't really much in the way of medication for alcoholism. There's SSRIs and things if you suffer from depression, but that doesn't help with alcoholism.
Personally, I'm against all forms of drugs, legal and illegal. That's just me though. I'd prefer my immune system do its job naturally.

A visit to the doc will help.
As Soberween says it will take a lot more than saying you're going to quit.
I did it just a day at a time. I couldn't think of my whole future without booze but now I found I can live without it and a better life, too!

Anti-depressants. They increase serotonin levels, and help quell depressive moods. There's a bunch of them, so you'd need to talk to your doctor as to what's best for you. Personally, I was on a weak SSRI called Trazadone for about 6 months back in 2008. First and only time I'll ever take anti-depressants.
