Survived!

Hey, I just wanted to check in. I had to go to a wedding reception this evening, and I survived! NO drink, I wanted to drink. I mean open bar is an alcoholics dream, right? I did excuse myself early and now I am home. It is a small victory, but I will take it. I honestly didn't want to go, but it was one of those situations where it would be weird if I wasn't seen. Anyway it is what is and I wanted to share and say thanks to everyone.

Way to go vexedenuff!!!!! That's a major accomplishment. I usually leave early too. No need to push it. But every time you have a victory like this, your sobriety gets stronger.

That's awesome! You did good, and definitely got a first out of the way.
It took me a long time to even be near situations like that!
It's been over two years since I got sober. I recently went to visit my family in CA, and I sat right next to someone while they were drinking...I also went to a barbeque where some were drinking, but I was content with water or a Coca-Cola! Who knew Coke tastes so good on its own, with no booze in there?!

Life is actually more vivid and the senses come alive when you're sober for a while....
Best wishes on your sober journey, and enjoy all the firsts that are in store for you!

Not really. Once the meal was over with. I had to get out of there. People were like "No, don't go, stay a little longer". I had to go. I'm only a couple of days removed from my last binge.

It may be a first, but I could see the danger all around me. I think from now on I'm going to chill. I definitely am not that strong. Not to mention that voice inside my head was driving me crazy! It was one of those things where I had to go, but in the future I'm going to have to set limits. I don't know if I could handle that again.
