Hi to members
Hi, not sure where to start. I am on day 2, yesterday was rough but that was because of the previous drinking. I fell better today, didn't wake up with the bad horrors. This forum is a lifesaver, I have been reading it for a while. I never knew I needed a plan which is probably why I have not succeeded before. Joining this forum is a part of my plan. Only the start though as change will take time. If I don't pick up a drink good things will happen.
Thanks for reading this.

Hi, thanks for the encouraging replies. It does seem to be the little things that count. I have had some breakfast, wow, first in a long time. I have done some cleaning, dirt that I have been looking at for months.
Reading many of the posts here has helped me a lot, there is a way out of this horror.

Yes, there is a way out. I've been asking myself a big question these past few days, and it's not "Why do you drink to the point of stupidity?". Instead, it is "Why aren't you sober?". It may not help you, but this subtle change in thinking has made a world of difference to me.
Just food for thought.

Thanks all. I have just been to the shop to get some food. Walked past to booze bit, it takes up nearly a quarter of the shop. I thought well you live on your own and today is a holiday so have a last bottle (or two or three). Then yes I said to myself "why don't want to be sober today?" I am going to have a sober day today and that's that.
"Why do you drink to the point of stupidity?" has not stopped me before.
On the way back I walked past 'my' bar. Sunny late morning and it was busy. A couple of 'friends' shouted out "Come and get a beer?"
Well I made a total idiot of myself in there the other day and night.
I declined. Sage advice here. Thanks.

Hi, day 3 today. Last night was a bit rough. Major sweats and shakes and not much sleep. I thought these sweats are fine as the poison is leaving my body. I got up feeling groggy after 4 bad hours sleep and opened the curtains, wow, sunny morning and the birds are singing .
I thought, I am looking forward to today, being a bit groggy is infinitely better than the horrors when you cant face the moment let alone the rest of the morning or day.
I had a bit of a scare yesterday, the devil came knocking for me, the AV that is. He said 'get your jacket on and get a drink and stop this nonsense'. So I put my jacket on and as I went out I noticed how clean my room was, it hasn't looked like that for a long time. Then I remembered the food I had bought and the fact that I was properly hungry. So I took my jacket off and told the devil to go back to hell.
One day at a time. Thanks.

You've worked out a really important point, which is don't let yourself get too hungry. It seems that the AV can convince you you want alcohol, when all you really need is food. Watch out for the hungry times (often mid-afternoon), and have a snack before hunger strikes.
