How is it alcohol is not illegal?

Prohibition is not the answer, there are plenty of countries in the world where alcohol is banned and all of them are in the bottom third of the UN HDI.
What's needed is proper,even handed, non judgemental, factual, education in schools (so not the "just say no" crap either). This would slowly alter society's perception of alcohol/narcotics
Secondly the issue of unit pricing needs to be passed into law (this is furiously resisted by the drinks industry) It is a significant deterrent, especially to young people. The big alcohol concerns give lots of money to our politicians so that it won't happen (in the near future at least)
