You could totally show up at an AA meeting, MANY recovered alcoholics suffer with these types of issues (including myself)!!
Just because you stopped using/drinking when you were young doesn't mean you couldn't still use the help or identify as an addict/alcoholic (even though it was 40 years ago).... obviously you quit for a reason right? Because it was becoming a problem?
We call alcoholics/addicts who "just quit using" with no AA program "dry alcoholics". Meaning that while they might be physically sober - they are lacking mental/emotional sobriety. It sounds like you could identify with that - yes?
