Importance of "Now"

What should be important for me is "Now". Not what used to be ("The Good Old Days!") or what might happen in the Future ("What If...?"). The past is over. The future is yet to come. No one can resurrect the past. And who can tell what may happen later? As for the "Now", some of that one may seek to control, particularly oneself, but there are things beyond my control and seeking to change them only adds to my troubles. Seeking to change what can be changed can only be done gradually ("One step at a time"), with patience ("Easy does it!") and even there the outcome is uncertain.
Are these all "euphemisms"? Trite? If so they were known over two thousand years ago. Persons far wiser than I observed them. Only out of pride, conceit, do we reject them.

W.

P.S. The title of this thread should read "The Importance of Now"- not "The Importance if Now". Apparently this is something I "cannot change". The title of the thread illustrates its meaning! The ways of the SoberRecovery site are mysterious and enlightened indeed!

Fear of the future... Boy do I know this one. I am convinced I am going to drink again. Thus, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I understand "living in the moment" I just don't know how to do it.

Hey painter. I'm gonna mess with you a little bit.

"Now" doesn't exist. I once proved this logically to a group of physicists.

If time is a line, with direction and constant movement, then "now" is a point on that line. We all know that data points have no duration, no existence other than mention. So, "now" is a nonexistent concept trying to make duration where none exists.

We exist in a flow. We decide where the flow goes. Make your flow to the light, not to the darkness.

Thanks so much. That's not the way I was trained in the Navy. Cause in the Navy they say, "Now hear this!!!"

Thanks Janie, for calling me your head man. When I was a kid in school they called me "The Head" because they thought my head was too big. Another of my names was "Size 12". "There goes "Size Twelve"! They'd say, because they thought that my hat size was that big.
Have a Size 12 Holiday now!

W - you're in rare form today.

This was a timely post. I've been whining about the holidays not being the same as the one's I used to have. Well, of course they aren't. They can still be good in a different way though. It's accepting what we have in front of us - with grace - that helps us get by and not be resentful.

Trust me, some of the stuff I read gives me headaches, too. But, I love the pain. Contemplating reality is a reward unto itself.

Correction. I just spotted a comma between "head" and "man" in Janie's message so I was wrong. I guess I'm not Janie's "head man" and that she was saying, "Man, don't mess with my head". It just goes to show that I do have a swelled head! This is not a "character defect" It's a physical defect. And even Tiny Tim ("God bless us everyone!") couldn't get his Higher Power to "remove" his physical defect. But then again, it was part of his routine, the crutch routine that is. Was Scrooge Tiny Tim's Higher Power? He did end up sending around a turkey- or was that a goose. And he gave Bob Cratchet a day off.

trachemys, time does not have constant movement. Einstein showed us that time is relative to the speed of the observer. As an observer speeds up, time slows down. It slows down until the speed of light is reached (the cosmic speed limit). At the speed of light, time stops, at which point the time-is-a-line analogy breaks down.

So, if I, as the observer, approach the SOL, I don't notice any change. Right?

Ah give me a break! As I approach the speed of light, Einstein says my mass approaches infinity and my body becomes two dimensional. Thus I become a two dimensional plane of infinite mass. O.K. So what has this to do with sobriety? If I'm an alcoholic drunk what does it matter that I'm an alcoholic two dimensional drunk of infinite mass. Will they still let me into AA meetings?
