Maybe, but my experience was not cool, not cool at all. LOL!

I suspected something was wrong when I had to stop saying or typing OMG. An offense to God it appears. And I'm not kidding, I was petrified to talk. Every time I slipped, I was getting the "look".

Sorry, don't want to highjack the thread.

Shyness may have been a contributor to my drinking. Not that I often used alcohol to loosen up, I used it to pass the time while avoiding social events. Glad you are getting out and about.

Tetra, I think it's good that you're moving forward. You have a good job, and now you're dating. That's great. Just take it slow. As far as being shy/quiet - you don't need to apologize for that. As you said, you can accept and embrace this part of yourself.

Tetra
a) Don't listen to Pat
b) He sounds like a nice guy (not Pat, your date ). You liked him and he liked you why not go out with him to the movies. Just take things slow and keep it casual and light.
You are a sweet lovable person and I am not surprised someone would want to go out with you so don't doubt yourself.

Hey Tetra,

I reckon the 1 year rule isn't really meant to be taken literally. It's not like an intimate relationship is totally inappropriate at 364 days of sobriety and then suddenly at midnight it's just swell :=]

I think taking time to get some clarity is probably really important though. It's something I'm exploring, too, at the moment and I'm really just making sure I'm truly comfortable with whatever it is I'm doing. That sounds simple, yes :=]

I like quiet, too. There's something really sweet about sharing silence with someone else- I think it says good stuff about your relationship when it happen. Take care.

This is so true >sigh<
The one year rule is about getting into something serious but I don't see anything wrong with dating someone casually at 5 months as long as that person is not another alcoholic.
Just take things slow, I m sure you heard that old corny joke:
- How do you know two alcoholics are on their third date?
- There is a moving truck in the driveway

Apparently Pat is a cheap date

Tetra, there's lots of us shy people around - it's absolutely ok to be who you are - in fact I think that a pre-requisite for any kind of long term relationship success.

Be yourself and you'll find people who like who you are will be naturally attracted to you
