Feel HORRIBLE....

Tomorrow will be 1 week since I had a drink & I feel REALLY weird. My head is so spacey (I feel like it's floating in the clouds), can't think straight, it takes me like 5 extra seconds to process things, noises are louder....what the heck!?!

If I didn't know better I would think I was stoned! But I'm not. I tried marijuana once in college & didn't like it. Anyway...I do NOT remember it being like this in 2008. NOT looking for medical advice...just wanted to know if any of you felt like this early on in sobriety? Brain feels like only 10% is working. :-/

Thx!

Have you had enough to eat? I only get that way if I haven't eaten enough. Fruit smoothies work wonders for me when I feel this way.

I experienced what I called 'foggy brain syndrome' to varying degrees for about 6 months or so, Serenidad. I had to really concentrate on paying attention, focus on focusing, especially when I was driving.

This, too, will pass.

Yes absolutely....what the...spaced out, inability to absorb anything, just like a clone of a person....the only good thing about it was that I was kinda numb to everything as well...
it will pass and get better bit by bit...take really good care of yourself and if you are really worried contact your doctor.

It's a journey. All sorts of weird stuff happens for ages. It does get better.

My life is so much better sober- but it took time

I realised I had been poisoning myself for 30 years- takes bit of unwinding

I found that eating sweets helped me; I think that our bodies are withdrawing from the sugar contention alcohol so we sort of experience a sugar-low.

Strat's idea for fruit smoothies is a much healthier suggestion, though.

I had slight depression and some spacey feelings, but at-least I wasn't in jail or smoking meth.

Hmmm....I can't remember! Did I eat today??? OMG! My memory is gone too! Oh yeah...I did eat a but lunch. This is terrible! Thank goodness I don't have to do anything that requires a lot of thinking! Sooo glad I took a month off work!

Do you take multivitamins? I just started taking them and it seems to be helping. Walking helps too. It gets the blood circulating better to your brain. I kind of remember this one week in.

POISON! It IS poison! I just read that alcoholics damage every single part of their bodies and if they don't stop in time much of it is irreversible. :-(

Ok. I just wanted to make sure it was normal. I guess I will just have to take care of myself and wait it out. Thank you! :-)

100% normal, or at least by what I experienced. It takes a while for your central nervous system to heal (months) - if you needed any evidence that alcohol has a long term effect on your brain, here it is.

Thank you but I think I already realized that I was turning my brain to MUSH! Haha. Not really funny but better to laugh than cry sometimes. I'm glad it gets better. This is weird!!!
