Question New

Hello, I am new to this site and recovery. I am trying to stop but get really bad shakes when i don't have alcohol (I tried quitting cold turkey and shook so bad I had issues walking down the stairs) I also sweat ALOT during that time! any suggestions?? I have anxiety issues as well which made it seem alot worse

Welcome bimmer. Shakes that bad could be a precursor to something worse, you may want to see a doctor and work on a plan to quit safely.

Maybe you should go to the ER instead of drinking more?

My doctor prescribed a medication to help me detox safely. It helped immensely with my withdrawal symptoms including the anxiety. I tapered off the meds 11 days ago, and am on Day 38 of no drinking and with very little anxiety to speak of.

I had intense anxiety too. This may not be true for you, but for me, I drank for years to self-medicate my anxiety. I think the alcohol may have actually been the cause of it. I wish you the best, and a SR is a great place to come for support.
