Newbie Day 1
Hi everyone,
Today is my day 1. I've been drinking heavily for about 14 years. In that time, I've had many day 1s.
Lately, I've been trying to put together a plan to quit for good. It's a work in progress.
I'm tired of the post-drunk anxiety, shakiness, pounding heart, sweats, etc.
In the past when I've tried to quit, I can go anywhere from 1 - 10 days before I start thinking having a drunk evening sounds fun. It's like once I feel a little better, I reset the clock.
Anyway, that's just a little about me. Looking forward to learning more about all of this.

Welcome, ThatHombre, to SR. You will find an abundance of support, encouragement and understanding here.
I drank alcoholically for 9 to 10 years; have been sober almost 3 years.
You can do this. It all starts with Day 1; you can push through Day 10 and find yourself sober, years later!!!!

Know all about resetting the clock...as soon as your body feels better I feel like "hey why not?". I am an alcoholic, that's why.
Welcome to the forum, it's a great place! You'll find loads of support in times of despair! We can do it!

Welcome ThatHombre! Ya, I finally got sober when the withdrawal symptoms became too much and I snapped out of denial. It's odd that many of us ruin a sober period when we are actually feeling good. I've had to make a lot of changes to my routine to stay sober. I'm at 10 months but careful not to put myself in situations where I would be far too tempted. I turned down an invite to a Halloween costume party after thinking about it. I don't think I would have been able to resist when everyone is drunk , dressed up, and having fun. The 'fun' ends for me usually passed out in the neighbours bushes or the drunk tank.
Welcome, thathombre! I've had too many false starts to count. I can definitely relate to "resetting the clock" on my sobriety when I start to feel like I have things "under control." I regret drinking every single time. Please post here often; we are all going through the same struggle.

Thanks everyone. I'm thinking about attending an AA meeting. I have found one near me. I know there are different opinions on AA but in researching it, I think it might be for me.
It's time to get real and take action. Time to end the cycle of resetting the clock.
I don't expect a quick fix. I expect a long haul, but a much needed one.

Welcome Hombre. AA and coming here have been working for me. Eating ice cream instead of picking up a drink if I have cravings and building a solid group of supporters who I can call if I am down or feeling urges.
I drank daily for twenty years. I've got eleven months sober now. It can be done one day at a time.
