Big oops!
I was doing ok, but then I got cocky then on annual leave, I slipped and stayed slipped for a couple of weeks. Although I was drinking less, the withdrawals were 5 x worse than earlier this year. I ended up in my doctor's who was very sympathetic. Sympathy is great but does nothing for withdrawals. I genuinely think many doctors are clueless and many are judgemental. So I have been dry again for 7 days, feeling physically better but full of hypochondria. Had been promised Campril in recent months different doctor back-pedalled, saying "they aren't Smarties, you know." Intercourse the doctor, I hope he has diarrhoea for a fortnight. Going to make contact with support service. Feeling very mortal. Every twinge is something serious. Hypochondria?
I had health anxiety for a while myself, both at the end of my heavy drinking and during initial months of sobriety. I diagnosed myself with just about everyting - I had a brain tumor, heart disease, meningitis, lyme's disease, flesh eating bacteria, you name it I thought I had it for a short period of time.
Some doctors definitely don't get addiction - you should try and find one that does or see an addictions counselor if you can. Being actively involved in your healthcare can be a big help in the health anxiety area.

Campral done nothing for me anyway the best way to start is with Acceptance
Acceptance you cannot drink anymore and try and get group therapy, addiction councelling, recovery programme
stick with us read and post well done on 7 days
Good luck Daevid

Thanks Scott for your support. I'm so glad I have here to post. I worked dry as a qualified nurse in a detox unit for years (nobody's immune to relapse). No, most doctors don't get it and one of my patients was a doctor. I used to score patients' withdrawals on the CIWAAR scale for medication and I was definitely a 12 or 13. I have seen alcohol dependents having grand mal seizures, sometimes in spite of the medication. A&E doctors used to telephone me in the middle of the night for detox protocols to be faxed to them. I have never had seizures before and I'm glad I didn't this time.
