You've hit the nail on the head. Planning for triggers, and disrupting drinking habits are keys to success. If you'd planned to say, go to a movie, or meet a friend for coffee, right after the interview you would have sabotaged that trigger.

Boy I had to do a lot of planning and diverting when I was first sober. Walks, special non-alcoholic drinks, activities, sweet food - I had a whole repertoire.

Welcome MsTriste! Once upon a time as a kid, I lived in Kailua.

And good start with the three days, you can do this.

Thanks in part to all of you, I've made it almost to bedtime of day 4.
And hi to ex-Kailuan from Oahu!

If you feel a not-12 step approach is appropriate, there are lots of resources available for you. There is even a discussion forum here at SR, and a list of these resources there at Secular Connections - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information.

It helped me to understand that I really can be in control of my drinking, as long as the action is to never drink again. I also needed to believe I deserved it, and that I could succeed.

I hope you stick around, and keep posting, MsTriste. There are some very un-Triste folks here, those who quit drinking and never looked back. You can be one of them too.
