Aloha all!
I also know why I relapsed last time - I had a stressful job interview and I had already told myself I was going to drink afterwards. Stupid. I know stress, particularly about the job situation, is my number one trigger, so I'm planning on watching out for that and managing it.
Boy I had to do a lot of planning and diverting when I was first sober. Walks, special non-alcoholic drinks, activities, sweet food - I had a whole repertoire.
If you feel a not-12 step approach is appropriate, there are lots of resources available for you. There is even a discussion forum here at SR, and a list of these resources there at Secular Connections - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information.
It helped me to understand that I really can be in control of my drinking, as long as the action is to never drink again. I also needed to believe I deserved it, and that I could succeed.
I hope you stick around, and keep posting, MsTriste. There are some very un-Triste folks here, those who quit drinking and never looked back. You can be one of them too.
