My Higher Power makes me sick.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg.
After finally recovering from SELF-INDUCED illness (hangover, withdrawal, etc.) and starting to feel better…. Was all excited about first good sober weekend & filled it up with a ton of sober plans.
But nooooooooo.
Get hit with some heavy cold/flu thing. I’m like, dying at my desk right now at work. Head pounding, entire body aching, falling asleep, eyes itch, nose runs. Can’t go home because I used up too many sick days on self-induced illness last week. (Karma?)
OR – maybe this is my higher power making me mega sick for the 2nd weekend in a row, so that I don’t have any desire at all to drink/use!?!?!?
Waiiit a minute. Maybe this is actually a blessing in disguise.
I have ZERO desire to drink/use being this flu sick.... and usually the first couple weekends of sobriety are the toughest..... maybe I could use a whole weekend of sniffling in bed & hanging around SR?
I’ll be 2 weeks clean & sober after this weekend. That's the longest I've been in a long time.
Thanks HP? For making it easy on me?
Lol.
Recovery has taught me to find gratitude in many unlikely places.

mrrryah1.. I've likely had the same bug the last few days. Not many colds knock me on my butt, but I sat on a three hour conference call this morning in my pajamas, trying not to snort too loudly. I'm truly miserable, and it takes some kind of virus to do that. I empathize with how sore and yucky you feel.
An author I truly adore, SARK, explains the wonderful parts of being sick: the ability to completely nurture ourselves by staying in bed, eating only what soothes us, and complaining loudly about how miserable we feel. I've always kind of loved that idea: the majesty of illness.
So take this cold as a maybe slightly unpleasant, but a free ticket to indulge yourself in healing. Stay in bed and watch too much Netflix. Eat the foods that nourish and that you find palatable. Read too much, sleep when you want. No one is likely to feel sympathetic about your withdrawals and cravings, but heck... Full sinuses and sore head? Let us bring you soup and extra blankets.
And yes... You can't taste much or crave much when you feel yucky. That's a good thing!
Enjoy your time with cozy blankets on feverish skin, in soft pillows embracing your sore body, in mid day naps. Let the healing be truly healing.
And in a few days, emerge refreshed and renewed, ready to take on the world!

Mrrryah - so many people are sick right now...I have no idea why. But half of my office is down with a bad cold/flu, and I'm on day 3 of it myself.
No fun! I can't wait to get home under a blanket with some hot tea. Good thing we have SR to keep us company this weekend while we vegetate/rest!

Some homeopathic physicians believe if we are too weak our bodies protect us by not allowing the symptoms of a cold or flu to surface. We are sick without symptoms. The fact that you are feeling it may be a sign that your body is strong enough to endure an upper respiratory infection.
I'm not 100% sold on that philosophy, but I'm not 100% not, either.
Congrats on 2 weeks. You are DOING it.

We find help in the most unlikely places. Lol. Its amazing that you can see the bright side to it. Your body still has a lot of healing to do on top of the cold. Sounds to me like Mangoes was bang on. A weekend full of self care
