Ice cream! Eat some ice cream! I promise, that will make the cravings go away.

I hesitate to post craving threads because I don't want to worsen the cravings of others, but I can't help that this is where I'm at. And for me it's not so much the moon as it is that this has been my normal pattern and behavior for the past twelve years.

Suki....I'm really trying not to replace alcohol with things like ice cream. I don't want to get fat! Maybe there is a low fat frozen yogurt out there ore something I could try...

Sure, try some low-fat frozen yogurt. You're craving sugar. If you eat something sweet (I used ice cream) it will kill the cravings.

How about grapes or cherries? Those really hit the spot for me sometimes. And some almond butter.

P.s. give yourself a break and don't worry about the calories for a couple of weeks. ...your body will adjust and you will cut down on the sugar. But for now, do whatever it takes to get through the beginning.

If my cravings are bad, sometimes I take a warm shower which helps relax me.

Try to distract yourself with something your mind can focus entirely on. Or if you must focus on it, compare your discomfort to something that would be truly horribly uncomfortable, like having your fingernail ripped off or something horrid, and then see how your discomfort compares. It isn't that bad in comparison.

The SMART handbook has a lot of good tips on dealing with cravings. Some find urge surfing (a form of meditation) helpful too.

I've been buying and drinking really nice "designer" teas lately -- there are some wonderful ones out there -- I will also pour a aroma-therapy bath and sip away the cravings.

I want to get some more opinions here. So, on Monday nights I have a guilty pleasure....I watch The Bachelor/ette/pad/In Paradise, or whatever it happens to be (lol...I admit it!). Then I watch Mistresses. I always crave my wine whenever my Monday nights come around. I was thinking that maybe I could replace my wine with chilled sparkling cider. To me, I think this will help, but I was in an outpatient rehab years ago, and my instructor said you should never do things like this. Personally, I can understand why it might not be good for some, but I think it would help me. Thoughts?

It's important to me to have great drinks around. I like cranberry juice with sparkling water and lemonade. The sparkling cider sounds great... just don't have it in a wine glass!

You have to just fight it. No one wants to get fat but having your "treat" be ice cream in the beginning is a good one and I really think the alcohol calories not only add up quicker but they also damage the internal organs. Ice cream is not as damaging. You don't see little kids getting cirrhosis of the liver...! Alcohol is the worse evil...

When the cravings first hit me, I drank a Diet Coke, a glass of water and had an ice cream sandwich. By the end of drinking the soda, water and the ice cream, I was okay.

I'm not eating ice cream now, not even drinking Diet Coke (the NutraSweet makes people fat) but have replaced it with Zevia soda. Ok, well, I have indulged in frozen yogurt and I think the occasional ice cream is fine now that I am not consuming alcohol calories.

I'm almost at 4 weeks, and the first 2 weeks were the hardest. Good luck!

Oh and I was on this site way too much but it helped.

You can break associations...just takes a little time.
Sparkling water is good and doesn't remind me of what I used to drink. I think that's the key point.
