Discussing My Recovery with My Teen Daughters?
Good morning,
My two daughters aged 18 and 14 come back today from a summer camp and I'm debating on whether I tell them about my 2nd attempt to quit drinking. I'm on day 10 today (I quit the day they left after another drunken fight with my husband).
The girls are aware of my & my husbands drinking habits, my older daughter went so far as to ask their Dad to try and stop for a month in April and our younger one hid all the alcohol in the house from us recently. They knew we were drinking too much and causing destructive arguments between ourselves, etc.
Should I just continue down my path and let the girls notice themselves? Or, is it better to let them know I've given up alcohol and have their support? Thoughts?
Thanks,
>AH

I didn't say anything to my kids until I was about six months sober. When I talked to my thirteen year old son, he said "I've noticed it, Mom, I really appreciate it. I am never going to drink." As I always tell my children, actions speak louder than words.
