Back Again After 4 Years
Back Again After 4 Years
I was here from early June 2010 to November.. After 5 months of sobriety, I thought I could "step out" again and have those 2 drinks a day. That worked well... for a few months. Then the inevitable progression (or regression!) began again.
I just can't drink at all. Without ending up with 5 or 6 and then, Happy Hour 3 or 4 days a week. It's that old ,miserable feeling of not being able to control this demon.
At 71, this might be my last attempt. I think what's keeping me alive is jogging/walking 4 miles a day,7 days a week for the past 10 years. But eventually that will slide also as age continues to set in.
It is a lousy dilemma. I doesn't help much that millions share it. But you have to start somewhere. Hence the return.

hey there travelinman!!!
what a cool and inspiring thing to see you come back here after that hard-learnt lesson.
what a fantastic opportunity to travel forth on your life's path, leaving this demon behind for good now that you've proven to yourself beyond doubt's doubt that it's not a dance you can do without getting burned.
what a joy to realize that you can drop that bottle and ride with joy from here on out.
Welcome back.

Welcome back!
I understand, took me ten years to come back. I guess I looked at it that I may have another drink in me but I do not have another recovery in me.
This was it for me and I hope its your time as well. Glad you are back

Thank you all for the kind welcome and the many very excellent thoughts! It's up to me now to get it right this time.
Now for the daily 4 miles and the beginning of a better life. It's now or never.

good to see you "again' travelin man. I'm only here since March. I sent in my retirement paperwork today. It was not my first choice to retire. But it beats getting fired. Those random tests have a way of exposing things to us. Thanks for sharing your post. Every time I see one of these it is another nail in the coffin, the coffin that I put my last drink in.

You were here before I joined, I am pleased to meet you!
Welcome back, I'm a fairly new kid on the SR block. sober 13 days. But was many times before, around 2 months being my longest sobriety stretch.
Can't wait to read your posts and learn a few tricks in the process ;-)
