Day 1... again
Day 1... again
HI there. I just found this site after once again falling off the wagon and being a hateful, vicious drunk. I want to quit but can't seem to make it stick. My family is beyond frustrated and hurt by my last set back. I lashed out verbally at all of them. I'm going through a rough divorce and have so many issues. Alcohol does not make them better. It just helps me not think for a few hours. At any rate, first post... Back on Day 1. I HAVE TO DO THIS.
Welcome to Sober Recovery.
The decision to quit is the first step. But that decision, that desire to be sober is rarely enough.
Hope you read around the site. You will see mention of various recovery programs, means of support, techniques for getting through the rough patches. Pick one, then work it.
Sometime detox is necessary, to get past the physical withdrawal. And if all else fails, there is in-patient care. We do what we have to do to get and stay sober...if that is indeed what we want.
Good luck.

Welcome to SR. Drinking does seem to get us away from reality for a few hours, but everything is still there. Once we sober up, there are all the additional problems we have created, both for those around us and our self.
The day after a drinking binge, we are really motivated not to do it again. It is fresh in our mind. A few days later, maybe not so much. This is only my experience with years of on and off drinking. Take the feeling you have today and keep it fresh. Do whatever works for you, there are many different approaches to become sober and remain sober. For today, don't take the first drink. Take care

Thanks everyone. I'm sad. This last binge I said hurtful, horrible things to my parents. I'm 40 but acted like a child and a nasty one. For the first time ever my dad hasn't accepted my apology. I'm determined to make it right by my actions. This would normally make me drink but Im allowing myself to feel pain and not force him to forgive me. He's hurt.
Welcome Bhappy. Time to start acting like a grown-up then. The first step is to stop drinking.
Once this is fixed then we can start working on everything else.
Stick around here. Plenty of support. Thanks for checking in.
