I hope you consult some medical advice. I stopped both but I don't think I could have done it at the same time as my systems emotions were too frazzled.

You are a young , educated man with a bright future, it will take time and great effort on your part. But in the end you and quite possibly your ex will thank you for it! As far as being unemployed, get yourself cleaned up and see if you can do some pro bono work while you look for a job, i'm sure if you get out there doors will be opened for you! I had to make a lot of changes to my life to stay sober - but they were all worth it.
I don;t think you're really comfortable in your misery - I wasn't - I was just scared of change and what that meant I'd have to do?
