alternative to drinking?

so, im trying again....
i only drink at night and need something to distract me.
i live in a bad neighborhood so cant go for a stroll, and i have no garden for fresh air, which is a shame as i think these would be really helpful.
i have tried having a bath, which distracts me for all of 5 minutes. i have tried reading, watching tv, playing board games (that actually worked really well, but my kids were exhausted and my partner bored s***less). cleaning...um, no. decorating-but that costs quite a bit. exercising. pc games- have played so many im now bored with them.
i recently went to my doctor for help, but he only gave me a prescription for sleeping pills that my chemist doesnt stock.
my god, just dont drink! its easy during the day-i dont even consider it, but at night i cannot get that awful voice out of my head.....its only tonight, you deserve to relax, its not too late to start drinking (at midnight).
we will be moving house soon and im hoping (almost certain really) that the excitement coupled with the packing, moving, unpacking and the arranging our stuff in a new place will stop the voice for a few days. on top of that, a brand new environment and routine will help to stop the drinking. im kinda pinning everything on this move, so am just waiting for it to happen. saying that, i realize that it will still take strength, due to the stress of moving, i will probably 'deserve' to drink. anyway, im hoping moving works, but in the meantime?
any suggestions for distractions on the night?
thank you

There's always the interwebz! I spend/waste a lot of time monkeying around online. I also like to read, listen to music, cook, sharpen knives, etc.

Read about ADHD in adults. Your story sounds familiar to me.

Good luck on your move!

The problem is when we take out drinking from our evenings, we realise we have so much time to fill, we didn't really fill it by drinking either by the way, we just distracted/numbed ourselves and the night slipped away until bed time.

It's a skill in itself to re learn how to occupy ourselves and ENJOY life without alcohol, if it's something that is simply seen as passing time for the sake of it, it becomes a chore, instead we need to look at our evenings as we're going to enjoy them with activities or even with no activities, but we're gonna do what we want to do in life without alcohol.

I posted before a while back about the example of children, when we were kids, we didn't have alcohol, we didn't even know what alcohol was, so did we never enjoy ourselves? . . . of course we did, there wasn't enough time in the day before bedtime to do all the things we wanted to get done!! . . . so the question for all of us is why do we need, or think we need alcohol now to enjoy life?

The problem that we are all facing is carving out a new Sober lifestyle and pattern of life that now doesn't facilitate or revolve around the drinking of alcohol, rather than just continuing without alcohol but having the same routine.

It is possible to ignore that voice in your head. Tell it to stfu. You can get thru this sober.

Whatever you do smadams11, the point is to CHANGE what you are doing. Do it one night, then do it again, and again, and again. Until that is your new "habit," and not the liquor, even if it does bore you at times. Besides, doesn't liquor get boring too?
