I don't believe in god, will AA work for me?
Your belief in god is not relevant to success in AA,. any more than your belief in UFO's or Bigfoot.
What defines success is following the 12 steps. A higher power is required, but that higher power can be anything. There are atheist AA groups in many areas actually if that tells you anything.
It is true that some AA groups do specifically use a religious god as their higher power, but that is merely the decision of that particular group of people, it is not an AA mandate or policy of any kind.
I don't actually use AA ( i have in the past ) but my suggestion would be for you to at least try some meetings if you think it might help. The absolute worst possible outcome is that you spend a couple of hours talking ( or just listening ) with others who have the same goal as you - to get sober.
