At a party last night a woman whom I've seen a few times at mutual parties came up to me and said "Nikki, I just need to hug you. I love you. You're so nice and sh*t" - This really struck a chord with me.

I think I used to drink so heavily at parties because I thought that was what gave me my personality. It's not true though. I am just realizing this. People like me because I'm a good, fun and positive person. Not because I drink. I am naturally funny and loopy. I love to laugh. I love to hug people. I love to be Nikki. Just Nikki. With no type of mind altering substance. I don't need it.

I enjoyed the party. As I looked around with sober eyes I noticed that no one was really drunk. Everyone enjoyed a beer or two. Maybe three. I'd say no one was even buzzed. It's interesting because when I hear the word party, I would automatically assume I should be getting drunk. On a normal night, I probably would have finished off a bottle of wine. It brings a smile to my face to know that I was cracking jokes and laughing with people around me.

Anyone here ever have the realization that you're just plain awesome? Because you should. Because you are.

You are totally right Nikki. I used to think people liked me BECAUSE I liked to go out and drink a lot on a night out. Now I realise most of them liked me IN SPITE of the fact that I liked to go out and drink a lot on a night out!

My "friends" have no time for serious me since I don't drink, go to adult clubs and their multitude of parties and get off my face every week.

Even at my worst drinking, I was the good straight laced one who doesn't do drugs and never will.

I can't make new friends very well as I am very introverted and all through school I never had any friends. I am just accepting I am a loner library netd and books were always my friends before peer pressure got me drinking, and books are my best friends still.

Nikka, you rule! I can totally identify with your party experience - in the past "party" meant - I'm gonna get blasted with everyone else...in reality, I was the one getting blasted, most everyone else was drinking normally. Amazing how getting that perspective gives you, uhhh, perspective! I just told my BFF that after 3 months I feel different - still me, but a better version of me. Radical. Thanks for your post and making me smile.
