Painting

Hello, i'm still sober today through sheer will power. I used to paint alot before I was in the forces (former marine) I was wondering if anyone else paints here to help them not to drink. What things do you paint and what method do you use?

I've also eaten 12 bars of chocolate in a row to deal with my craving so far

Hi Scott Painting is very therapeutic. I do portraits from photographs and absolutely love doing them.

"I've also eaten 12 bars of chocolate in a row to deal with my craving so far." I do this....

I don't paint. I do collages. Cutting out the images and figuring out how to convey whatever is soothing and also helps me focus.

I paint sometimes...
I SUCK A%^ at it, but it helps me to release tension...

Personally I use the I-am-a-grown-up-but-I-paint-like-a-three-year-old-method

I LOVE painting and yes, find it a wonderful distraction. I have a degree in fine art and used to paint still lifes, but lately all of the painting I have been doing has been more of the "crafty" type with my 9 year old. Maybe it's time to dig out my acrylics or watercolors :-)

Early in recovery I say do what you need to in order to stay sober. I should have taken my own advice the other day when I slipped, but I am not perfect and I learned from it. Sobriety is SO worth it!

I don't paint anymore but when I did it was with acrylics. I loved the easy clean up.
If you do paint with acrylics here's something that worked for me:

I got a small cupcake tray and used that as a pallet. It was great. Deep enough to hold a good amount of paint and the flat space between the cupcakes was perfect for mixing.
Used a water sprizter to squirt the paint to keep it moist. Then wrapped it in saran wrap and popped it into the fridge over night.

I like looking at paintings but my own art is terrible!
I managed to pass GCSE art when I was 16 (Lord knows how!) and even now in my classroom, if ever I have to draw a picture of a person on my board I always draw them with their hands behind their back because I can't draw fingers. One pupil told me that one of my drawings I did in red on the board looked like 'prison art'! I had to agree.
But, unlike many people, I DO have a favourite painter. She is Tamara De Lempicka!

I'm not much of a painter but love graphics and have been learning psp. I also love photography and can spend hours back north in the woods waiting for a good shot.

Thought I'd try watercolors. I also do a little stained glass but still at the apple, sea shell, flower stage. Nothing to complicated because I am not an artist when it comes to that.
