35 days sober 40 meetings
I managed to get over the month hurdle a few days ago and it has been a big challenge. I think this is my first full month off the plonk since 2004.
3 pubs in the area, a supermarket 2 mins away and an off licence across the road has not helped but I am still sober.
For the first 2 weeks I was shattered! My neighbour was also cheesed off because he no longer had a drinking friend. I have been assertive but not aggressive with him and he has finally stopped banging on my door every day.
I am back at work, eating better and sleep is really good. Anxiety has also reduced. The weird dreams have gone. Relationships with parents have also improved.
I have been going to AA each evening and have sometimes squeezed in 2 a day. I am mangaging to balance this to have time to take up some interest. I have joined a walking group and I am decorating my neglected flat.
It is bank holiday this weekend and seems a bit surreal to be sober. Nice to wake up without a hangover this weekend and be productive.
From previous experience now is not the time to be complacent when feeling better and start drinking again. I will continue to go to AA and will keep on the forum. Thanks for all your help to date.

not to forget
congratulations
all seems to be working for your new sober life
most times I just
keep doing what I have been doing so as to stay sober
after 5 years I still go to and or do
AA meetings, church, working with others, internet recovery and bible study
it all helps to keep me fresh
not to forget
where I came from -- one hell of a spot !!

Terrific! You'll come across some bumps in the road, but for me, at least, getting past that first month was crucial. It showed me that I could be fine, better than fine, without wine every night (lots of wine). I also learned that I could enjoy an evening, watch tv, read, whatever, and not be anxious or bored, and what a relief that was.
By the way, what's a bank holiday?
