Hello Everyone
Just wanted to say hi & introduce myself.
I'm 42 & pretty much have stayed drunk for 20+ years.
Have been alcohol & tobacco free for almost 4 days. It isn't much time but a start, especially for me. However am using nicotine gum for now.
Hoping to make some friends here that I can relate to & vice versa. Seems like a wonderful site & from what I've read so far some really great people as well.
The decision to quit for me is health related. Just really tired of feeling bad/hungover all the time. Not really overweight, ok maybe a couple of pounds.
Not real sure what happened but it was a wake up call a few mornings ago. Hungover maybe a little more than usual, could feel my system just wasn't right. Body aches & pains, light headed, blood sugar out of whack, the shakes. I really thought I was going to have a heart attack. Been through this before, but not as bad.
Almost 4 days later I feel physically pretty good, mentally in a good positive state as well. There is no doubt that the alcohol is poisoning me. It's way overdue to say goodbye to old friends & make some new ones.
Cheers everyone, going to have a glass of apple juice & off to bed sober.

I'm at 4 days too, and experiencing the same feelings- clear mind and more real thoughts and dreams. I've been to three AA meetings and off to another tonight. Even though I haven't spoken a word at any of these meetings- it helps so much just to know you are NEVER alone in this fight against alcohol. Take a buddy and get to a meeting! You'll love it! Best wishes you can do it!

Thanks everyone for the kind responses.
Today has been tough, indulged in a lot of food.
Physically feeling pretty darn good. Mind is a little cloudy though.
One day at a time is how I plan on changing.
Thanks again.
