500 days and counting

500 days ago I had my last 2 and 1/2 bottles of wine and decided to quit. I was a heavy drinker.

I still think about drink. Not every day but at least 5 times a week. Sometimes I crave it a lot. Sometimes I miss that first glass of wine and miss being drunk.

Some days Im happy, some Im sad and low. I notice alco bottles in people's shopping baskets, mine is alco free. As this poison is everywhere I have to remind myself how addictive it is, one sip and I will need the whole bucket.

I still haven't found substitute. I just live sober life.

Just wanted to share with you.

Thank you for your honest post....I struggle with cravings to drink wine, I notice those who are, but I am working hard to learn to live a sober life. It does take time doesn't it. Congratulations on your 500 days!!

Congratulations on 500 days HF

I found the more changes I made to my life and myself the less I missed the old life I'd left behind.

Keep growing and changing HF

Fantastic job HF!!! I am proud of you!! You have faced many struggles squarely and honestly as you see them and still stayed sober. I hope you are proud too!

I am just a few days behind you in sober days i realized. The changes that have come in my life since I stopped drinking have been extraordinary. Almost surreal.

For those of you new to this sobriety stuff, or those struggling, consider this. The many years of stagnation, self destruction, shame and arrested development that drinking brought me, are what I think of now, when I think of drinking.

I think this:
Would I like to be buried alive, alone in the dark, in mud, with a martini glass in my hand?
OR
would I like to be living, in the sun and light, feeling connected with others and to the Universe, with hope in my heart, but have no glass in my hand?

No contest.
That's how different it is. The longer you stay sober the more true this becomes.

Congrats on 501 days. The fact that you still crave 5 times a week struck me! You are well over a year sober. It scares me as I am only at two months. If you don't mind me asking do you do any programs? I have not as if yet, so far SR has been working just fine as my sober support.

Again congrats in your huge milestone!! Much to be proud of!

Its really encouraging that you are at 500 days that's an amazing achievement, I am 8 and a half months sober and thankfully have no desire or cravings to drink anymore. I hope to be were you are at with that amount of time under my belt and I am confident I will be. I was a wine drinker and cant help but notice other peoples baskets in the supermarket and when I see someone purchase only a bottle of liquor and put it in their bag I actually feel sorry for them as it reminds me of what I was like and how miserable I was. I wouldn't swap being sober for anything. I like going to shopping and buying soft drinks and coffee and not feeling ashamed and guilty like I used to when I was buying bottles of booze. Congrats on the 500 days!!

Its not like Im craving 5 times a week, I think about the drink as something I can't have. These short cravings come and then quickly go.

I don't do any programs. SR is my support! I read other people posts. I love this website!
